Most homes we walk into already have smart devices. A video doorbell, a smart thermostat, a few Wi-Fi bulbs. The problem is none of them talk to each other, and every one has its own app. Control4 OS 3 pulls all of it into one place, organized by room, the way you actually live in the house. You control it from whatever is closest to you: the app on your phone, a touchscreen, a Halo handheld remote, or a keypad on the wall. Same system, same rooms, same controls on every one of them.
Every family uses a handful of things constantly and the rest rarely. OS 3 lets you mark your most-used rooms, lights, music and scenes as Favorites so they sit front and center. Press and hold to add one, rearrange them however you like, remove them when habits change. Your home screen ends up looking like your house, not a showroom demo.
Instead of walking room to room, you glance at one screen and know which lights are on, whether the front door is locked, if the garage is closed, what the temperature is, and what is playing where. If something needs changing, you tap it right there. No digging through menus.
A typical family room has a TV, a soundbar or receiver, a streaming box and a cable box. That used to mean three or four remotes. With OS 3, one handheld remote or the app runs the whole setup. Pick what you want to watch or listen to and the system turns on the right equipment, sets the right inputs and puts the sound where you want it. Music can follow you from the kitchen to the patio without touching anything twice.
Scenes let one tap do what used to take ten. A Goodnight button locks the doors, turns off the lights and sets the thermostat. A Movie button dims the family room and starts the show. Your most-used rooms sit at the front so you can swipe between them, and each room can have its own look on the screen.
