It is here, and it takes over from OS 3 as the current generation of the Control4 smart home system. If you are planning a new smart home project, X4 is what we will design around. If you already own a Control4 system, this page explains what changed and what your options are.

A HOME SCREEN THAT FEELS LIKE YOUR HOME

The biggest change in X4 is the new Home Screen. Instead of tapping room to room to check on things, you get one screen with the real-time status of the devices you care about: lights, shades, locks, security, and whatever is playing. Favorites, quick actions and widgets let you arrange that screen the way you want it, so the things you touch every day are the first things you see.

WIDGETS PUT CONTROLS WHERE YOU WANT THEM

X4 adds personalized widgets: small live controls you place and organize on your home screen. Camera view, door lock, lights, music. Each one sits where you put it and shows its status at a glance. It is the difference between hunting for a control and having it on the screen the moment the app opens.

DEEPER APPLE INTEGRATION

For iPhone households, X4 adds Apple HomeKit integration with Siri voice control, alongside the Control4 app on iOS and Android. If your family already lives in the Apple ecosystem, your Control4 system now meets you there.

ROUTINES, SCENES AND SCHEDULES

Set it once, the house runs itself. We program it around how your household actually runs.

Lights come up, the kitchen news starts playing, and the house hits the right temperature before you are out of bed.

ALREADY HAVE OS 3?

You are not stuck.

OS 3 STILL WORKS

OS 3 systems keep running and we still service them, so there is no emergency. But X4 is where Control4 is putting its new development, and it is worth knowing what you would gain.

UPGRADING IS STRAIGHTFORWARD

What an upgrade takes depends on your current equipment. We will tell you straight whether yours is a simple software move or needs some hardware swapped, and what it costs before any work starts.

ON AN OLDER SYSTEM?

If your Control4 system predates OS 3, its cloud services are being retired at the end of 2026. Worth a conversation soon rather than later. We can look at what you have and lay out the options.
